If you want to become a certified Conventional Equipment Operator or a Hydraulic Equipment Operator, and you have related work experience or training, you may qualify for certification. For these two trades - Conventional Equipment Operator and Hydraulic Equipment Operator, there is no required apprenticeship program. You need to prove that your skills meet the standards set for the journeyman in Alberta. Please contact Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
What are the duties for this trade?
Crane and Hoisting Equipment Operators set up and operate cranes or draglines to lift or place machinery and other large objects at various job sites in construction, warehouses, railway yards, factories, water drilling and oil and gas operations. Almost all operators have to be able to clean and apply oil to crane and hoisting units (except for wellhead operators). Mobile crane operators need to drive the crane to the job site.
