What are the duties for this trade?
Ironworkers fabricate, construct, join, repair and
service any structural ironwork or metalwork and precast
concrete structures, such as: scaffolding, structural
steel buildings, bridges, ornamental ironwork and
pre-cast structures.
The work is done at great heights and outdoors by a team
or crew of ironworkers. Very cold or rainy weather can
shut down projects for days at a time. Because of the
nature of the work it is very important to follow safety
rules and use safety equipment.
Ironworkers who want to specialize in assembling
one-story (one-floor) steel framed buildings need only
one year of training and their title is Ironworker �
Metal Building Systems Erectors.
Ironworkers are required to lift heavy items weighing
over 25 kilograms (67 pounds).
