In Alberta, registration as a Pharmacy Technician is voluntary. The Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) is responsible for the registration of Pharmacy Technicians. Pharmacy Technicians who are graduates of a Pharmacy Technician Program that meets the criteria approved by ACP council may apply to be on the Register. Foreign credentials will be compared to determine eligibility.

What are the registration requirements for internationally educated Pharmacy Technicians

Detailed instructions are available on the Alberta College of Pharmacists website under Instructions for Applying for Registration as a Pharmacy Technician.

A note about registration

Registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacists is voluntary.  It notifies employers that a person has completed a training program that meets the criteria established by ACP council.  This is not a license and it does not authorize a registrant to assume responsibility for restricted activities such as compounding or dispensing.  Currently, work is underway to move to regulation of Pharmacy Technicians by 2010.  When that occurs; successful completion of a national qualifying exam will be a requirement.                        Additional information is available on the ACP website.
