Who is the licensing body responsible for Physiotherapists in Alberta?
In Alberta, you must be registered with The College of Physical Therapists of Alberta (CPTA) to practice as a Physiotherapist. Only registered members may call themselves Physiotherapists or Physical Therapists, or use the words physiotherapy or physical therapy to describe or refer to their practice, occupation, profession or business.
What are the licensure requirements for internationally educated Physiotherapists?
As outlined on the College of Physical Therapists of Alberta website, internationally educated physical therapists must meet the following requirements:
- have a degree from a physical therapy program that would make you eligible to take the Physiotherapy Competency Exam
- successfully complete the Physiotherapy Competency Exam
- be proficient in the English language to engage in safe and competent practice
- provide evidence that you are currently competent to practice physical therapy
- provide evidence of good character and reputation
- be a Canadian citizen or be lawfully admitted and entitled to work in Canada
