Who is the licensing body responsible for Local Government Managers?

To call yourself a Certified Local Government Manager, you must be a registered member of the Society of Local Government Managers.  You do not have to be registered if you do not call yourself a Certified Local Government Manager.

What are the educational requirements for Local Government Managers in Alberta?

  • The University of Alberta Faculty of Extension offers an eight course (Level 1) Local Government Certificate program and a four course (Level 2) NACLAA (National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration) program through online education. The entrance requirement for the Level 1 program is a high school diploma. The Faculty of Extension also offers a 10 course Applied Land Use Planning program and a five course Information Access and Protection of Privacy program.
  • Athabasca University offers a one year University Certificate in Public Administration program. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age. Enrolment is restricted to those who do not already have a related degree.
