Who is the licensing body responsible for Architects in Alberta?
In Alberta, you must be registered with the Alberta Association of Architects (AAA) to practice as an Architect and use the title Architect.
What are the AAA licensure requirements for internationally educated architects
Internationally educated Architects must:

4. Upon successful completion of academic assessment, intern program and AREs, an internationally educated architect can apply to the AAA for licensure.
What is the role of the Canadian Architectural Certification Board?
Prior to registration with any of the provincial associations of architects in Canada, applicants must have their academic qualifications certified by the CACB. Following certification of their academic qualifications, applicants are then required to complete the licensing requirements of the AAA.Tips for completing application form:

What are the educational requirements for Architects in Alberta?

In Alberta, the University of Calgary Faculty of Environmental Design offers a three and one half year Master of Architecture program. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0/4 (or equivalent) in the final two years of study and submit a portfolio of their work.

What is the AAA Intern Architect Program?
Applicants must apply to the AAA and submit the Application for Registration as an Intern Architect. The Intern Architect Program is a practical training program whereby the applicant must be employed and mentored. The intern comes forward with a suggested mentor. The AAA also provides a list of registered mentors to interns. The Mentor must be a registered Architect in Alberta. Other Canadian provinces are permitted as well. Applicants have 3 calendar years of employment to complete 5800 hours of work experience. A Canadian Experience Record Book (CERB) is issued to approve interns by the Registrar who reviews it periodically. Also, approved interns are registered to write the NCARB Architect Registration Exam (ARE).
Examination Information
The Architect Registration Examination (ARE) assesses candidates for their knowledge, skills, and ability to provide the various services required in the practice of architecture. The ARE is the only examination prepared by NCARB and has been adopted for use by all 54
There are nine divisions that comprise the examination. The written portion consists of six multiple-choice divisions are: Pre-Design, General Structures, Lateral Forces, Mechanical & Electrical Systems, Building Design / Materials & Methods, and Construction Documents & Services. The three graphic divisions are: Site Planning, Building Planning, and Building Technology. Candidates for the ARE must pass all divisions within five years.
Where can I take the Architect Registration Exam and where can I find preparation material?
NCARB has developed a tutorial program for candidates to familiarize themselves with the graphic vignettes before taking each division. The practice program is available at no cost on the NCARB web site. Thomson Prometric Testing Centre is the administrator of the ARE.
