Who is the licensing body responsible for Nuclear Medicine Technologists in Alberta?

In Alberta, you must be registered with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT) Only registered members may call themselves Nuclear Medicine Technologist.

What are the registration and licensure requirements for internationally educated Nuclear Medicine Technologists?

Internationally educated Nuclear Medicine Technologist’s must:

  1. Submit an Application for Assessment. It is important to note that candidates are evaluated based on substantially equivalent qualifications. Therefore, additional training, testing or education program may be a result of the assessment.
  2. Submit all the required documents (found on the ACMDTT website) which will be used to determine qualifications. Candidates must also submit an International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) basic assessment http://www.employment.alberta.ca/Immigration/4512.htmldocument evaluation.
  3. Provide evidence of English language proficiency.

Once applicants have completed the assessment process and demonstrated substantially equivalent qualifications, they are then required to successfully pass the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) certification exam. Candidates who wish to work in Alberta must be assessed by the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists before applying to access the national certification exam.

What are the accepted English language proficiency tests and where can I be tested?

Applicants must also provide proof of English Language fluency by one of the accepted testing assessments:

    • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)                                                                           
    • IELTS (International English Language Testing System)                                                                   
    • CLBA (Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment)

What is the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) certification exam?

The Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) is the association responsible for the administration of the CAMRT certification exam. The CAMRT exam is based on medical radiation competencies and is composed of case study questions in multiple-choice format. Study guides and exam reference material are available on the CAMRT website.

 

Applicants are encouraged to be aware of exam registration deadlines, CARMT eligibility requirements, examination fee, exam frequency and the turnaround time for exam results.
