Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination Part I (MCCQE1)

Study Group Description:

The Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination Part I (MCCQE1) study group focuses on assisting international medical graduates in reviewing competencies as outlined by the Medical Council of Canada’s Objectives for the Qualifying Examination through practice exams and/or oral review with a facilitator. The sessions are focused at the clinical clerkship level as a review of clinical knowledge, ethics, professionalism and cultural competencies. Sessions will strengthen critical thinking, decision making abilities and exam taking skills.

Limited spaces are available in the MCCQE1 study group.

6:00 pm - 9:00 pm (weeknight sessions) and 10:00 am - 1:00 pm (Saturdays). Sessions are typically on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Some sessions may be scheduled for Wednesdays, dates may change depending on facilitator availability.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be an international medical graduate
  • Have intention to take the MCCQE1 within 12 months or provide proof of registration for an upcoming exam date
  • Take the mandatory screening quiz
  • Be ready, willing and able to commit to the attendance rules and group protocols
  • Be ready, willing and able to prepare for the topics prior to the online exam and session review
  • Be approved by a career coach/facilitator/coordinator

Screening Details:

  • Screening delivery involves an online exam
  • Assessments are based on Medical Council of Canada objectives for the MCC QE1
  • Notification regarding acceptance or decline will be sent via email
  • Written feedback will be given on areas requiring improvement based on outcome
  • A minimum of 50% must be achieved in the screening quiz to be considered for the study group
  • All decisions are final
  • Participants may reapply for future screening if unsuccessful

Online*

Please note participant will require access to a laptop or PC and high speed internet suitable for audio and video streaming. A cell phone is not suitable for participation.

‍Important Information:

  • The majority of sessions are physician led reviews of the topic based on MCC objectives
  • Participants will be required to complete discipline specific online exams prior to the review session
  • Some topics will only be reviewed by online exams
  • The objective of the study group is to improve critical thinking, clinical reasoning and exam skills while refreshing clinical knowledge
  • This study group is an intensive review requiring self motivation, dedicated study time and time management skills
